Located in the rolling wine-growing landscape of southeastern Styria, near the Slovenian border, Frühwirth Winery combines regional building traditions with a contemporary architectural language. The roof renovation was driven by the ambition to preserve the area’s architectural identity while responding to present-day design requirements. As a destination for wine tasting and visitors, the winery strengthens the connection between local culture, landscape, and hospitality.
Swisspearl Tec+ roofing slates were selected for their calm, matte appearance, creating a restrained and precise roofscape that references the local building tradition without replicating historical precedents. The result is a contemporary architectural expression that integrates naturally into its surroundings.
The renovation also simplified and straightened the existing shed dormers, bringing greater clarity and coherence to the overall roof form.
Designed by architekt Dipl. Ing. Niederl, the project demonstrates how careful material selection and refined detailing can bring regional heritage and contemporary architecture into dialogue.
