Located on the waterfront in Skärhamn, the Quay forms a new residential quarter that extends the harbour with housing, public spaces, and a continuous waterfront promenade connecting the surrounding attractions.
The project reinterprets Skärhamn’s architectural heritage through a contemporary lens. Drawing on both the traditional Bohuslän village structure and the harbour’s industrial character, the architecture balances smaller residential volumes with larger industrial-inspired forms to create a natural extension of the existing townscape.
The facades combine Plank Original in five colours and white Patina Original NXT. Wood-textured fibre cement panels are installed both horizontally and vertically to create variation, rhythm, and a robust maritime expression. Taller buildings along the rocky shoreline are clad in vertically installed red Plank Original boards, while lighter volumes feature white Patina Original NXT panels, providing contrast and reinforcing the hierarchy of the built form.
Through careful material selection and a contextual architectural approach, the Quay strengthens Skärhamn’s waterfront while establishing a contemporary identity rooted in the character of the place.
