Warmth and appeal combined in a functional home

Individual house C | Moste, Slovenia

The featured family home is an excellent example of natural construction. Its architecture, together with the combination of materials used, adds functionality, warmth, and an attractive appearance to the house.

The house is located in a compact residential neighbourhood in Komenda. The living area on the ground floor opens towards the south and west through two large glazed surfaces. It was designed as a compact single-family home for four people, with somewhat larger and more spacious living and sleeping areas. The ground floor accommodates several living and working spaces, while the upper level contains the bedrooms, a playroom, and a small study. The upper level is open up to the ridge and features exposed timber collar beams, whose appearance beautifully completes the character of the interior and furnishings.

The house has roof overhangs on both gable sides, connected to balconies. Together, they protect both the upper and lower sections of the gable facades while also providing shelter from rainwater and reducing summer overheating caused by direct sunlight. The building envelope further enhances the durability of the structure, as it is entirely designed as a ventilated facade. The parts of the facade more exposed to weather conditions are clad with durable and weather-resistant Swisspearl Carat panels in a dark anthracite colour, creating a striking contrast with the lighter timber elements. The appearance of the property is completed by an external storage shed and a carport for two vehicles, both also clad with Swisspearl Carat, this time in a lighter white shade. Their roofs extend towards the longer side of the residential building, creating a covered terrace. The roof of the house completes the material palette, as it is also made of fibre cement.
